The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has officially commenced the sale of application forms for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and Direct Entry (DE), registration cycle for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges for the 2026/2027 academic session.

This announcement marks the start of one of the most critical periods in the academic calendar for prospective higher-education candidates nationwide.

1. Sale of Application Forms and E-PINs

JAMB has scheduled the sale of application documents and E-PINs for both UTME and Direct Entry candidates in separate phases:

  • UTME E-PIN vending begins: Monday, 19 January 2026

  • UTME registration period: 26 January to 28 February 2026

  • Direct Entry (DE), application sale and E-PIN vending: 2 March to 25 April 2026

Candidates are expected to obtain their E-PINs — electronic personal identification numbers — before completing their online registrations at accredited CBT (Computer-Based Test), centres nationwide.

Note: Only candidates with valid National Identification Numbers (NIN), are eligible to register. The NIN must be linked correctly to the JAMB profile to avoid registration issues.

2. UTME Registration Process and Requirements

The UTME registration window runs from January 26 to February 28, 2026.

Prospective candidates should ensure they:

  • Have their NIN ready and linked to their contact information.

  • Complete their biodata accurately during registration.

  • Register within the stipulated timeframe, as late entries are generally not permitted.

JAMB has reiterated that personal data, including subject combinations and choice of institutions, must be entered carefully. Errors may be difficult or impossible to correct after submission.

Eligibility Tip: Generally, candidates must be at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026. Younger applicants may require special evaluation.

3. Optional Mock UTME and Main Exam Dates

To help candidates familiarise themselves with the CBT exam format and identify areas for improvement, JAMB is offering an optional Mock UTME:

  • Mock UTME: 28 March 2026

  • Main UTME examination: 16 April — 25 April 2026

The Mock UTME is not compulsory but is highly recommended for many first-time test takers.

These key examination dates allow students roughly a month after registration closes to prepare for the main UTME.

4. Direct Entry (DE) Registration and Timelines

For candidates seeking admission by Direct Entry, typically holders of ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB, or university degrees, the registration window begins shortly after the UTME cycle:

  • DE E-PINs and forms available: 2 March — 25 April 2026

  • DE registration venues: State and zonal offices of JAMB, or designated centres.

Direct Entry registration runs concurrently with the latter part of the UTME cycle, giving DE applicants ample time to complete their applications.

5. No Increase in Registration Fees

Ahead of the registration period, JAMB clarified that there is no plan to hike UTME or DE form fees for 2026, reassuring parents and candidates that costs have remained stable compared to previous years. Any future fee adjustment would only be considered if absolutely necessary.

6. Preparations and Practical Advice for Candidates

With the window for registration now open, candidates are strongly advised to:
  • Start the process early to avoid network congestion and last-minute issues.

  • Confirm that all personal data, including NIN and biodata, are accurate before registration.

  • Visit only accredited CBT centres for registration and avoid third-party intermediaries.

  • Consider participating in the mock UTME to build confidence and test readiness.

Conclusion

The commencement of the 2026 UTME and DE forms sale on January 26 signals the official kick-off of next admission cycle into tertiary institutions. With clear timelines for registration, mock exam and main examinations, candidates must act promptly, adhere strictly to JAMB’s guidelines, and prepare diligently to maximise their chances of success in the 2026/2027 academic session.

E-PIN refers to the electronic Personal Identification Number used by candidates to access and complete their JAMB registration online.
