President Bola Tinubu has appointed Jamiu Abiola, the son of the late Chief Moshood Abiola, as Special Assistant (SA), on Special Duties. Jamiu Abiola’s father, MKO Abiola, was the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election in Nigeria.

The appointment was conveyed in a letter sent by President Tinubu to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), before his departure for the United Nations summit in New York.

Jamiu Abiola, a graduate of New York University in the United States, has been deployed to the office of Vice President Kassim Shetimma to support the Tinubu-Shetimma-led administration in fulfilling its promises to the Nigerian people following the 2023 presidential election.

The appointment is seen as a recognition of the late MKO Abiola’s achievements and philanthropic work in Nigeria and abroad.

In the appointment letter, President Tinubu stated, “I am pleased to inform you that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved your appointment as Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties (Office of the Vice-President).”

Jamiu Abiola is known for his proficiency in multiple languages, including Arabic, French, Spanish, and German, which he can translate into English. He is fluent in several other languages, including French, Portuguese, Yoruba, Hausa, Japanese, Igbo, Fulani, and Kanuri.

Additionally, Abiola has been engaged by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), since 2015 to translate documents from French to English and to draft summary reports during conferences and council sessions. He is also a translator for a leading global translation agency.

Abiola serves as the Director of Statutory Compliance and Indigenous Growth at Pilgrims Africa, a global security company with offices in over 20 countries. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Mega Station, a business he has managed for over a decade, achieving approximately N3 billion in annual sales.
