Nigerian singer Jaywon has expressed deep concern over recent killings in his hometown, Okun, Kogi State.
He shared a video on social media showing the insecurity and incessant killings in the area, pleading with President Bola Tinubu to intervene and stop the bloodshed.
Jaywon revealed that policemen and vigilantes have been killed, yet there’s been silence from the government. “THREE POLICE OFFICERS AND TWO VIGILANTES WERE MURDERED IN YAGBA, YET NEARLY 48 HOURS LATER, THE @NIGERIANPOLICEFORCE AND THE IGP HAVE SAID NOTHING. IF THOSE IN UNIFORM ARE NOT SAFE, WHAT HOPE IS LEFT FOR THE ORDINARY MAN? THIS SILENCE IS COMPLICITY.”
The singer questioned the logic behind arming Fulani men to protect people from the same Fulani herdsmen responsible for killings and kidnappings. “How can Fulani men be armed to “protect” the people against the same Fulani herdsmen who are killing and kidnapping them? This is nothing but backwardness and a failure of leadership.”
Jaywon urged President Tinubu to look into the situation and provide help. “KOGI IS BLEEDING. AND ALL WE SEE IS CAMOUFLAGE. MR. PRESIDENT @OFFICIALABAT, PLEASE DO NOT ABANDON US. WE DESERVE JUSTICE AND PROTECTION.” He described the situation as heartbreaking and a failure of leadership, adding that it’s not just Okun’s pain but Nigeria’s shame.
