The Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje, has warned newly appointed Imams and their deputies against intervening in matters related to judicial rulings, stressing that such issues should always be referred to the appropriate authorities.
The directive was given at his palace during the appointment ceremony of eleven Juma’at Mosque Imams and five Deputy Imams across the Hadejia Emirate.
Speaking at the event, the Emir reminded the clerics that their primary duty is to provide spiritual guidance, uphold religious values, and serve as moral leaders within their communities. He emphasised that maintaining the dignity and integrity of their offices is a key responsibility for all religious leaders.
Maje further stressed the importance of discipline, unity, and exemplary conduct, noting that Imams play a vital role in shaping community behaviour. He cautioned them against actions that could undermine their credibility or the respect commanded by their offices.
The Emir also encouraged the Imams to work closely with their deputies, fostering collaboration and support within the clerical structure. He urged them to continually expand their knowledge and understanding of religious matters to better serve their congregations.
During the ceremony, the Chief Imam of the Emirate, Sheikh Dr. Yusuf Abdurrahman, presented the newly appointed Imams and Deputy Imams with certificates issued by the Emirate Council. The appointments followed a rigorous screening process conducted at both district and Emirate levels to ensure that only qualified candidates were selected to lead the Juma’at mosques.
By highlighting the importance of maintaining harmony and respect within the clerical ranks, the Emir reinforced the clear distinction between spiritual leadership and judicial authority. He stressed that adherence to these principles is essential for the progress and unity of the Hadejia Emirate.
