The Consul‑General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lagos, Mr Daniel Krulls, has announced that his office is introducing measures to reduce visa processing times for Nigerians, targeting a maximum of three weeks for all visa categories.
Krulls revealed this during a media briefing, noting that the consulate currently handles over 10,000 visa applications annually and plans to expand capacity by doubling visa counters and engaging external service providers for certain visa types.
He also said a system will be implemented to verify academic diplomas, a method previously used in India, to speed up student visa approvals. “We are currently processing more than 10,000 visas per year… With new counters and additional personnel, we hope to speed up the processing of applications,” he stated.
The Consul‑General highlighted Germany’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Nigeria in sectors including IT, education, and the creative industries, with initiatives aimed at supporting Nigerian creators in securing royalties from global platforms.
He added: “Our main objective as consulate is to be a facilitator, facilitator for people to meet from Germany and Nigeria. Of course, one of the most important services we can provide is the visa process.”
With these reforms, Nigerians can expect more efficient visa services and faster access to Germany in the near future.
