Tension is mounting in Nsukka, Enugu State, after Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya, parish priest of St. Charles Catholic Church, was killed by gunmen on Friday evening.
Eyewitnesses said Fr. Eya was returning to his parish along the Eha-Alumona–Eha-Ndiagu Road when attackers on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle and shot him, killing him instantly. Some passengers traveling with him were reportedly abducted.
The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka condemned the attack, calling for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Residents are now living in fear, demanding stronger security measures from authorities.
A local eyewitness said, “It was shocking. People are scared, and we hope the government will act quickly to stop these attacks.”
