JUST IN: Hisbah Cancels Wedding Of Popular TikTok Star Idris Mai Wushirya

The Kano State Hisbah Board has officially cancelled the proposed wedding between well-known TikTok comedian Idris Mai Wushirya and fellow social media influencer Basira Yar Guda.

The decision followed a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding their union, which gained national attention after videos of the pair hugging and kissing went viral online. Hisbah authorities explained that the proposed wedding appeared to be a forced arrangement made to satisfy legal orders rather than one based on genuine consent and Islamic principles.

According to the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah in charge of Special Duties, Dr. Mujahedeen Aminuddeen Abubakar, the board decided to withdraw the marriage arrangement to prevent future disputes and uphold moral standards. “Hisbah decided to withdraw the marriage plan to prevent future conflict and ensure that any union between them is based on mutual consent and proper understanding,” Dr. Abubakar stated. He emphasized that Hisbah’s core responsibility is to promote morality and justice, not to enforce marriages under pressure or public influence.

The cancelled wedding came after a Kano Magistrate Court had earlier ordered Hisbah to organize the marriage within 60 days following public outrage over the viral video. The court had ruled that the couple must be joined in marriage as part of a corrective measure for what was described as an act of public indecency. In response, the Hisbah Board began contacting both families to begin the marriage process, including medical screenings and legal clearances. However, as investigations deepened, concerns arose about the authenticity of the relationship and the lack of commitment from both families.

Reports revealed that while the groom’s family had agreed to the marriage, the bride’s side, which is based in Zamfara State, did not fully engage in the process. Hisbah sources disclosed that the reluctance from Basira’s family raised doubts about the sincerity and readiness of both parties to proceed with the wedding. This led the board to conclude that forcing the marriage could result in further conflict and public controversy, undermining the essence of Islamic marriage values.

Following the cancellation, Hisbah stated that both individuals would be referred back to the court for further legal action. The board added that it would continue to monitor social media content creators to ensure compliance with moral guidelines and cultural values in Kano State. The case, according to observers, highlights the ongoing tension between traditional religious institutions and the rapidly growing influence of digital platforms among Nigerian youths.

Legal experts have described the Hisbah’s decision as a significant moment in the debate over morality and personal freedom in northern Nigeria. They noted that while social media offers opportunities for creativity and fame, it also poses challenges to cultural and religious norms. Many residents have since called for a more balanced approach that respects individual rights while maintaining public decency.
