Jamie Vardy Set To Leave Leicester City After 13 Glorious Years.

Leicester City have confirmed that legendary striker Jamie Vardy will leave the club at the end of the 2024/25 season, bringing an extraordinary 13-year spell at King Power Stadium to an emotional close.

The 38-year-old forward, who joined the Foxes from Fleetwood Town for £1 million in 2012, is set to make his final appearance at King Power Stadium on Sunday 18 May against Ipswich Town. The match is expected to be a heartfelt occasion as fans prepare to bid farewell to a player widely considered the greatest in the club’s 141-year history.

Club officials stated that Vardy’s impact during his time at Leicester had been unparalleled. With nearly 500 appearances and almost 200 goals, the striker had been at the centre of every major success the club has enjoyed in the past decade.

Leicester City Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha described Vardy as a “unique” and “special” figure, both as a player and a person. He noted that Vardy held a permanent place in the hearts of everyone associated with the club and that his contributions would never be forgotten. He also expressed deep gratitude for all that the striker had done, adding that Vardy and his family would always be welcome at the club.

In a personal message released to fans, Vardy confirmed his decision to move on, marking the end of an era. He leaves as the club’s third-highest goal scorer and appearance maker, having played a vital role in Leicester’s remarkable journey over the last 13 years.

Club sources highlighted his key contributions, from helping the team avoid relegation in the 2014/15 season, to leading the line in their historic and improbable 5000/1 Premier League title win in 2015/16. That season also saw him break a long-standing record by scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches – a feat yet to be surpassed – and earn prestigious individual honours including the Premier League Player of the Season and the FWA Footballer of the Year.

Vardy continued to deliver for Leicester in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, and won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2019/20 with 23 goals. He also played a key role in Leicester’s 2021 FA Cup triumph – their first in history – becoming the only player ever to feature in every round of the competition, from the preliminary stages to the final.

Club officials added that Vardy’s achievements would be celebrated in the build-up to Leicester’s final home fixture of the season, allowing supporters to honour a player whose story of rising from non-league football to Premier League stardom has inspired a generation.

Leicester City concluded by stating their sincere thanks to Jamie Vardy for his unwavering commitment, loyalty, and historic contributions – calling him a true great of the club.
