President Tinubu and President Biden Discuss Strengthened US-Nigeria Partnership.
President Bola Tinubu held a significant call with US President Joe Biden, during which the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation between their nations. The call, which lasted about 30 minutes, took place around 4 p.m. Nigerian time, with the conversation focusing on law enforcement, security, and the future role of Africa on the global stage.
The discussion was confirmed by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who briefed State House correspondents on the conversation. A key topic was recent collaborative efforts in addressing financial crime compliance, particularly in the wake of developments involving Binance’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance, Tigran Gambaryan. Tinubu expressed his gratitude for the ongoing partnership in law enforcement, emphasising the importance of shared security goals for both nations.
President Biden highlighted the vital role Africa plays in global security and development, underscoring that “the future of the world resides in Africa.” He assured President Tinubu that the US remains committed to supporting stability and economic growth across Africa, with a specific focus on West African security.
The leaders also discussed Africa’s representation on the United Nations Security Council. Biden reiterated the US’s support for a permanent African seat on the Council, specifically endorsing Nigeria’s suitability for this critical role. “The United States is committed to seeing Africa represented with a permanent seat,” Biden affirmed, recognising Nigeria’s leadership on the continent.
This call reflects a renewed commitment from both the US and Nigeria to forge closer ties, with Tinubu and Biden agreeing to work together on issues impacting their nations and the broader African continent.
