NIMC Issues Warning Over Unauthorised Printing Of NIN Cards.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has sounded the alarm over the illegal printing of National Identification Number (NIN) cards by unauthorised individuals and cyber cafés across the country. The commission has urged the public to be vigilant, stressing that only the official NIMC General Multi-Purpose Card is legally recognised.
The NIMC, tasked with overseeing Nigeria’s national identity system, expressed concern that these fraudulent activities could undermine the integrity of the identification process. According to the commission, the unauthorised production of NIN cards not only breaches regulations but also poses a risk to individuals relying on such documents for official purposes.
A spokesperson for the NIMC said, “We are committed to ensuring that every Nigerian has access to a secure and authentic identity card. The General Multi-Purpose Card is the only version approved by the commission, and we strongly advise citizens to avoid engaging with unverified sources for their NIN cards.”
The commission has called on law enforcement agencies to crack down on those involved in the illegal printing operations and has encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities. Citizens are also reminded that official NIN cards can only be obtained through authorised NIMC centres or approved partners.
This development comes as part of broader efforts by the NIMC to streamline identity management and enhance security across Nigeria.
