Just In: Olawepo-Hashim Denies Smear Campaign, Vows To Continue 2027 Presidential Bid

Former presidential candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has dismissed recent allegations against him as politically motivated, asserting that they are part of a broader smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Thursday, Olawepo-Hashim claimed that the renewed allegations, allegedly propagated through his estranged wife, were orchestrated by political interests seeking to undermine his growing popularity and political stance.

He stated, “She had been influenced by certain political interests abroad who sought to associate me with wrongdoing. I was questioned in the UK and released when no evidence was found.” Olawepo-Hashim further recalled a period during his 2019 presidential campaign when two oil assets linked to his company were seized, leading to a prolonged legal process.

The former presidential candidate emphasized that similar tactics were employed in the past to damage his reputation but expressed confidence that such efforts would fail again.

Olawepo-Hashim’s media office reiterated his commitment to his political ambitions and vowed to continue his advocacy for democracy and good governance, undeterred by the ongoing smear campaign.

The PDP chieftain concluded by urging his supporters and the public to remain focused on the issues that matter most to the nation, rather than being distracted by baseless allegations.
