JUST IN: Police Warn Against Protest Around Aso Rock And Abuja Environs

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong warning to groups planning to protest near the Aso Rock Presidential Villa and other sensitive areas in Abuja, urging them to avoid any action that could disrupt public peace.

The warning followed reports of planned demonstrations calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu in the nation’s capital.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the warning came after a Federal High Court order issued on October 17, 2025, restricting protests at specific public places in Abuja. He stated that “the injunction bars protests within and around the Presidential Villa, National Assembly Complex, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.”

Hundeyin explained that the directive was to prevent a breakdown of law and order, adding that all groups intending to protest must do so within the confines of the law. “We urge protesters to stay away from restricted zones to avoid confrontation and any act that could lead to violence or disorder,” he said.

The police spokesman also noted that security operatives have been directed to ensure free movement of traffic and protection of lives and property. He warned that anyone found inciting violence or carrying weapons under the guise of protest would be arrested and prosecuted. “The police will not hesitate to take decisive action against any individual or group that violates the law,” he added.

Hundeyin further cautioned those using social media to instigate unrest to desist immediately, as digital evidence would be used to trace and prosecute offenders. He said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the FCT Commissioner of Police to enforce the court order strictly.

The police, however, assured residents that law-abiding citizens can go about their normal activities without fear, emphasizing that the security agencies remain committed to maintaining peace and order in the Federal Capital Territory.
