JUST IN: Renowned Actor And Folk Singer, Jimi Solanke, Passes Away At 81

In a somber announcement, the entertainment industry mourns the loss of veteran actor and folk singer, Jimi Solanke, who breathed his last on Monday at the age of 81.

The iconic poet and playwright met his demise while en route from his residence in Ipara Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan. Sources indicate that he succumbed to the clutches of death during the journey.

Chief Solanke had been in and out of hospitals since December, with his health steadily declining until his passing on Monday morning.

Hon Dickson Awolaja, representing Remo North State Constituency at the state Assembly, officially confirmed the departure of the highly esteemed artist.

Hon Awolaja expressed condolences, acknowledging Solanke’s significant contributions to the cultural landscape, stating, “His death is undoubtedly another significant loss to us in Remo North and Ogun State as a whole. May his soul rest in peace.”

Known for his notable works including “Kongi’s Harvest,” “Sango,” “Shadow Parties,” and more, Jimi Solanke was affectionately referred to as “Uncle Jimi.”

His legacy as a multifaceted artist leaves an indelible mark on the artistic heritage of Nigeria.
