JUST-IN: Thomas Müller To Bid Farewell To Bayern Munich After 25 Glorious Years

Thomas Müller To Bid Farewell To Bayern Munich After 25 Glorious Years.

In a heartfelt announcement that marks the end of an era, Thomas Müller has confirmed that he will part ways with FC Bayern Munich at the conclusion of the current season. The 35-year-old German football icon, who has spent a quarter of a century with the club, shared his emotions in an official statement released today, bringing closure to one of the most storied careers in Bayern’s illustrious history.

“My 25 years as a player for FC Bayern will come to an end this summer,” Müller said. “It has been an incredible journey, marked by unique experiences and unforgettable triumphs. I feel enormous gratitude.” His words reflect the deep bond he has forged with the club since joining its youth ranks at the age of 10, a journey that has seen him rise to become Bayern’s record appearance holder and a beloved figure among fans.

Müller’s departure comes as his contract, set to expire on 30 June 2025, will not be renewed by the Bundesliga giants. Despite expressing a desire to continue playing for Bayern next season, the club has opted not to extend his deal, a decision Müller has accepted with grace. “I would have liked to carry on, but I respect the club’s choice,” he added in a poignant social media post.

Since making his senior debut in 2008 under Jürgen Klinsmann, Müller has been a cornerstone of Bayern’s success. With 742 competitive appearances, 247 goals, and 273 assists, his statistics only hint at the immeasurable impact he has had on the pitch. The versatile forward, renowned for his footballing intelligence and knack for finding space – earning him the nickname Raumdeuter (space interpreter) – has lifted 12 Bundesliga titles, two Champions League trophies, six DFB-Pokals, and a Club World Cup, among other honours. His crowning moment on the international stage came in 2014, when he played a pivotal role in Germany’s World Cup triumph in Brazil.

Bayern Munich wasted no time in paying tribute to their departing legend. In an official statement, the club announced plans to honour Müller with a farewell match, a fitting send-off for a player who has embodied the spirit of Mia San Mia. “FC Bayern will celebrate Thomas Müller’s extraordinary career with a special farewell game,” the club confirmed. “Additionally, it has been agreed that the two-time treble winner and world champion will play his final matches for Bayern at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.”

Speculation about Müller’s next move has already begun. While he has ruled out joining another Bundesliga side, reports suggest that Major League Soccer (MLS) could be his next destination, following in the footsteps of former teammate Marco Reus, who joined LA Galaxy last year. Alternatively, Müller may choose to hang up his boots and take up a role within Bayern’s organisation, an option the club has reportedly offered to keep their icon close to home.

For Bayern fans, the news is bittersweet. Müller’s infectious energy, on-field chatter (earning him the nickname “Radio Müller”), and unwavering loyalty have made him a symbol of the club’s identity. As the team prepares to face a new chapter without him – and with fellow veteran Manuel Neuer also nearing the end of his career – the focus will shift to emerging stars like Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich to carry the torch.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Müller’s final appearances in the famous red and white kit. With the Champions League final set to be held at the Allianz Arena this year, supporters will be dreaming of a fairy-tale finish for their hero. Whatever the outcome, Thomas Müller’s legacy at Bayern Munich is secure – a one-club man whose name will echo through the annals of German football for generations to come.

Danke, Thomas!
