President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, speaking Thursday in Abuja at the Federal Executive Council meeting after the swearing-in of two new ministers, stated that Nigeria remains on a steady growth path with increasing stability and prospects for prosperity as economic reforms continue to yield results and gain national and international recognition.
Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro was sworn in as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh (SAN) took over the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology. The President emphasized that both appointments will help drive Nigeria’s development agenda.
On the economy and foreign relations, President Tinubu stressed that despite political headwinds and public concerns, the Federal Government is engaging the world diplomatically. He said: “The success of the $2.3 billion eurobond that was oversubscribed by 400 percent is the most assuring. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in this country.”
Addressing security challenges, the President, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, urged Nigerians not to give in to despair. He assured that the government will defeat terrorism across all regions and called on ministers and officials to maintain consistent communication to avoid discordant messaging.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, reported significant economic improvements, including GDP growth of 4.23 percent in Q2 2025, inflation easing to 18.02 percent, foreign exchange reserves topping $43 billion, and a trade surplus of N7.4 trillion. He noted that reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda are helping Nigeria move from subsistence toward productivity and prosperity.
President Tinubu directed ministers across sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, health, and digital innovation to collaborate with state governments to mobilize domestic resources, sustain gains, and attract investment amid global liquidity constraints. He reiterated the government’s commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Nigeria.
