Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf met with National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu at the Office of the NSA in Abuja on Thursday.
The meeting, which lasted for more than an hour, was prompted by the recent political upheavals in Kano, including the dissolution of five emirates by the Kano State House of Assembly and the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II by Governor Yusuf.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, highlighted that the discussions covered various matters of state and national development. Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of the NSA’s role in maintaining harmony across the nation and provided an update on the latest developments in Kano.
“It was a fruitful discussion between myself and the National Security Adviser. His role is critical for the harmonious existence of our nation, so I briefed him on the recent developments in Kano,” Governor Yusuf stated.
The meeting coincided with Emir Sanusi II’s six-day stay at the Kano palace, where numerous district heads and kingmakers have pledged their loyalty to him. This comes after accusations directed at the NSA for allegedly involving the military to protect the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. These claims were quickly refuted by the Office of the NSA.
Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who had earlier accused the NSA of complicity in the crisis, has since apologized, attributing the misinformation to flawed intelligence.
