The Kano State High Court has upheld the suspension of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The court, presided over by Justice Usman Malam Na’abba, affirmed Ganduje’s suspension following an ex parte motion filed by two executive members of the APC Ganduje ward, Dawakin-Tofa local government area.
The plaintiffs, assistant secretary Laminu Sani and legal adviser Haladu Gwanjo, who were among the nine ward executives that suspended Ganduje, sought the court’s intervention in the matter.
The ruling dictates that Ganduje must refrain from presiding over any affairs of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC. This decision follows the suspension announcement made by Gwanjo, the party’s ward Legal Adviser, two days prior to the court ruling.
The State Working Committee (SWC) of the APC in Kano has also announced the suspension of ward party leaders who were involved in Ganduje’s suspension. The APC Chairman in Dawakin Tofa Local Government, Inusa Suleiman Dawanau, accused these leaders of engaging in anti-party activities and exposed their meetings with the ruling opposition.
The APC has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to probe into the matter, alleging that the individuals behind Ganduje’s suspension are not legitimate members of the party. The party claims that they are affiliated with senior officials and representatives of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
