The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 52 commercial tricycle operators, commonly known as Yan Adaidaita Sahu
The apprehension was carried out by Hisbah Command operatives across various areas in Kano city.
The arrests were made based on allegations of “immoral haircuts,” involvement in the sale of illegal drugs, and the practice of mixing genders in their tricycles.
The Hisbah Command initiated the operation, named “Operation Kau da Badala” (Operation Fight against immorality), with the aim of purging the state of activities deemed immoral, including prostitution, drug abuse, and the sale and consumption of alcohol.
Addressing the detained tricycle riders, Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Mujahid Aminuddeen, emphasized the importance of upholding Islamic principles and preserving the cultural values of Kano State. He urged them to refrain from engaging in actions that could tarnish the image of their religion and the cultural heritage of the Kano people.
The alleged offenses of the tricycle operators ranged from “immoral haircuts” and riding inappropriately dressed to displaying objectionable posters on their vehicles, mixing unrelated men and women, selling illegal drugs, and transporting women to locations associated with immoral activities.
Aminuddeen stressed the board’s commitment to addressing such illegal activities among tricycle operators and cautioned against behavior inconsistent with Islamic values.
Following their apprehension, the tricycle riders were taken to the board’s headquarters, where officials provided guidance and admonished them. Subsequently, the individuals were released after the counseling session. The Hisbah Board emphasized its ongoing efforts to curb recalcitrant behavior among tricycle operators in the region.
