Kenya Goalkeeper Patrick Matasi Suspended Amid Match-Fixing Investigation.

Kenya goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been provisionally suspended from all football activities for 90 days as authorities investigate allegations of match manipulation.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced the decision on Thursday evening, just hours after confirming the launch of an inquiry into the 37-year-old’s alleged involvement in match-fixing.

Allegations and Investigation

The case emerged after a video surfaced online, appearing to show Matasi agreeing to influence the outcome of a game. However, the authenticity of the footage remains unverified.

Matasi, who plays for Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz, has won over 30 international caps for Kenya. Despite multiple attempts, he has not responded to requests for comment regarding the allegations.

Denial from Club and Player

Cleophas Shimanyula, the owner of Kakamega Homeboyz, stated that Matasi was shocked by the video and denied any involvement in match-fixing.

“He was shocked at what he was seeing in the video, and he told me he doesn’t know about match-fixing,” Shimanyula told BBC Sport Africa. “Kakamega Homeboyz is against any form of match manipulation.”

Matasi’s last international appearance for Kenya was in October 2023 during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon, where the Harambee Stars suffered a 4-1 defeat.

Collaboration with Football Authorities

The FKF confirmed it would collaborate with world football governing body FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other relevant authorities throughout the investigation.

The case marks a significant development in Kenya’s football scene, as the FKF seeks to uphold the integrity of the sport while ensuring a fair and transparent inquiry into the allegations against Matasi.
