Kidnapping Threats In Kebbi: NBA Advises Members To Avoid Nine LGA

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kebbi State branch has issued a directive advising its members to avoid traveling to nine local government areas in the state due to kidnapping threats.

The affected areas are Bagudo, Suru, Kamba in Dandi, Bunza, Kangiwa in Arewa, Dirin Daji in Sakaba, Ribah, Kanya, and Augie.

This directive was issued by the NBA Chairman in Kebbi State, Aminu Hassan, following the abduction of one of its members, Isyaku Muhammad Danjuma, along the Ibeto Birnin Kebbi route in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State. “We urge our members to prioritize their safety and security by avoiding travel to these areas until further notice,” Hassan said.

The association has also resolved to boycott court proceedings from October 7 to October 10 in protest against the kidnapping and to draw attention to the worsening security situation. According to the NBA Chairman, the branch will work with the judiciary to provide alternative venues for court cases to minimize travel to unsafe locations.

The NBA has called on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to restore peace and public confidence. The association’s president, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has condemned the abduction and emphasized that no citizen should live in constant fear. “We demand that the government takes immediate action to rescue our abducted member and prosecute the perpetrators,” he said.

The boycott of court proceedings is part of the association’s efforts to draw attention to the security situation in the state. Members are urged to suspend handling terrorism-related cases, including kidnapping and abduction, until further notice.

The NBA’s action highlights the growing concern over the security situation in Kebbi State and the need for urgent action to restore peace and public confidence. The association’s efforts to ensure the safety of its members and the general public are commendable, and it is hoped that the government and security agencies will take immediate action to address the situation.
