Kogi Police Ban Use Of Vehicles With Covered Number Plates.
The Kogi State Police Command has announced a ban on the use of vehicles with covered number plates, as well as unregistered vehicles and motorcycles, across the state. This directive was issued by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, in a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya.
The ban was deemed necessary after intelligence revealed that criminals have been using vehicles with obscured number plates to carry out illegal activities. “It has become an obstacle in checkmating crime and criminality in the state by the law enforcement agents,” the statement explained.
Vehicle owners have been advised to immediately remove any coverings from their number plates, while those without registration numbers must ensure they register their vehicles to avoid impoundment. “It is illegal for vehicle owners and drivers to cover their number plates or drive without registration numbers,” the Commissioner of Police emphasised.
The police have warned that failure to comply with this order will result in the impounding of vehicles and the prosecution of offenders. The Commissioner also urged the public to replace defaced number plates and ensure their vehicles are properly registered to avoid penalties.
The police are set to begin a crackdown on violators in the coming days.
