Kwara State Sports Commission Dissolves All Sports Associations

The Kwara State Sports Commission has dissolved all sports associations in the state with immediate effect.

This decision was announced in a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday by the Commission’s Press Secretary, Saheed Abdullahi. According to the statement, the decision followed a resolution of the board at its sitting on September 12, 2025.

The commission aims to inject new, committed, and passionate members into the associations. The commission also plans to retain some active former members for better service delivery. “The commission aims to inject new, committed, and passionate members into the associations,” Abdullahi said.

Affected officials have been directed to hand over all documents, records, and materials belonging to the associations to their respective secretaries. The Commission urged outgoing members to continue supporting the development of sports in Kwara State and respond promptly whenever called upon in the future.

The decision comes weeks after the Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Bola Magaji, vowed to take decisive action against athletics officials over the Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s suspension of the Kwara State Athletics Association. The AFN had placed an indefinite ban on the association after discovering that a banned coach, Hammid Muritala, was still being engaged in athletics activities.

The commission’s move is part of its efforts to reform the sports sector in Kwara State. By dissolving the existing associations, the commission hopes to create a more efficient and effective system for managing sports in the state.

The Kwara State Sports Commission’s decision has significant implications for the state’s sports industry. The commission’s efforts to promote sports development in the state are expected to yield positive results in the long run.

The commission’s statement emphasized the need for cooperation from all stakeholders in the sports industry. “The Commission urged outgoing members to continue supporting the development of sports in Kwara State and respond promptly whenever called upon in the future,” Abdullahi said.
