Real Madrid’s Fixture With Valencia Postponed Due To Devastating Floods.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed the postponement of Real Madrid’s match against Valencia, initially set for Saturday, in light of severe flash floods that have ravaged Spain. The floods has claimed over 150 lives in the Valencia region, with dozens more still missing.
The RFEF has postponed all matches in Valencia and the surrounding areas following requests from La Liga, Liga F, and affected clubs, prioritising the safety and support of the impacted communities. Villarreal’s La Liga fixture against Rayo Vallecano, along with three Segunda Division games—Castellón v RC Ferrol, CD Eldense v SD Huesca, and Málaga’s clash with Levante—are also affected. In Liga F, Valencia’s game against Deportivo La Coruña and Real Madrid’s match with Levante are among the postponed fixtures.
In a show of solidarity, Real Madrid, in collaboration with the Red Cross, has donated $1 million (£845,000) to aid families affected by this natural disaster. “The donation will go towards helping the numerous families currently dealing with what is a critical situation, and who are in need of all our assistance and solidarity,” read a statement from the club.
The widespread flooding has led to the rescheduling of several Copa del Rey matches, including Valencia’s fixture against Parla Escuela. The RFEF has announced that a minute’s silence will be observed across all games this weekend to honour the victims and extend Spanish football’s solidarity to the families affected by this tragedy.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has declared a three-day period of national mourning in Spain as the country comes together to support those impacted by the devastating floods.
