The chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Philip Aivoji, along with other party chieftains, was abducted on Thursday at the Ogere area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The incident occurred as they were returning from the party’s Stakeholders’ Zonal Caucus Meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State. Private Source revealed that the abductors are demanding a ransom of N200 million for the release of the party leaders.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the abduction at the Bamboo area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and assured that security personnel are actively working to rescue the victims.
Expressing concern over the growing menace of kidnapping, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, called on security agencies and government authorities to promptly intervene and secure the release of Chairman Aivoji.
The party emphasized the need for decisive actions to eradicate this menace, urging collaboration between Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States, along with security agencies.
The governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, condemned the abduction, highlighting the “abysmal failure of government” in security matters.
Jandor urged urgent action from security agencies and suggested collaboration between the police and the regional security outfit, Amotekun, to facilitate the immediate release of the kidnapped chairman and others.
