The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to alleviate the burden of escalating food prices within the state, promising residents that necessary measures are underway to address the issue.

This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, during the conclusion of a two-day retreat organized for Management Staff at Orchid Hotels in Lekki.

Highlighting recent initiatives, Commissioner Olusanya emphasized the importance of the Market Trader Money program, which saw the distribution of #750 million to 15,000 traders across Lagos.

Additionally, she disclosed plans for the imminent delivery of the first Food Logistics Hub in West Africa located in Ketu, with three more Agro Food Hubs slated for development in Agege, Abule Ado, and Sangotedo, supplementing the existing hub in Mushin.

While urging residents to heed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s warnings against hoarding and unwarranted price hikes, Olusanya assured that the state government remains committed to restoring affordability and accessibility to essential food items.

Addressing the economic challenges faced by the nation, Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, stated the role of Ministry staff in executing government policies and programs effectively.

The retreat also featured discussions on wellness and mental health, led by facilitator Dr. Adebowale Oyebade from LASUTH.

Dr. Oyebade spoke about the global prevalence of mental disorders and advocated for prioritizing health needs to enhance work performance. Suggestions for promoting mental health included adopting healthy habits, engaging in regular exercise, and ensuring adequate water and fruit intake.

During interactive sessions, participants proposed various solutions to address the root causes of high food prices, such as the need for enhanced security around farmlands, increased incentives for farmers, and improved transportation networks for agricultural produce.
