The Lagos State Government (LASG), has announced a traffic diversion plan to facilitate urgent repair works on the damaged pedestrian bridge at Tincan First Gate, Apapa (inward Mile 2).

The repairs are scheduled for Saturday, 20th December 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and are being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos.

Phased Repair and Traffic Management Plan

The bridge repairs will be executed in two key phases to ensure both commuter safety and minimal disruption to traffic:

Phase 1: Lifting and Placement of Bridge Beams

  • The road from Tincan, Apapa to Mile 2 will be completely closed for approximately 20 minutes while beams are lifted and installed.

  • Traffic will resume immediately after this operation is completed.

Phase 2: Lifting and Installation of Bridge Slabs

  • Vehicles traveling from Tincan, Apapa toward Mile 2 will continue to move but will be diverted into a single lane about 50 metres before the bridge work area.

  • Full access will be restored 50 metres after the work zone.

  • Traffic from Mile 2 to Tincan, Apapa will move freely throughout this phase.

Motorist Advisory

The Ministry of Transportation and traffic management officials have advised commuters to:

  • Exercise patience and cooperate with traffic personnel.

  • Allow extra travel time when passing through the affected corridor.

  • Follow all diversion signs and official instructions to ensure safety.

The Lagos State Government emphasized that these temporary closures are necessary for the safe repair and maintenance of the pedestrian bridge, which is crucial for daily commuter movement in the busy Tincan-Apapa corridor.
