LASTMA Vows To Enforce Sanctions On Auto Dealers Displaying Vehicles On Walkways

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned dealers against displaying vehicles at unauthorised locations in the state.

The general manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the warning during a visit to him by members of the Lagos Motor Dealers Association on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to Mr Bakare-Oki, the display of vehicles for sale on road setbacks, walkways, and other prohibited areas obstructs the free flow of traffic.

Mr Bakare-Oki emphasised the importance of maintaining order and ensuring smooth traffic flow.

He said that LASTMA had received numerous complaints from community development associations regarding the illegal activities of some auto dealers.

He said that the display of vehicles on roadsides, setbacks, streets and walkways posed a significant risk to public safety, obstructed pedestrians’ movement and caused traffic congestion.

“Lagos state government is dedicated to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for all residents and road users.

“We will not hesitate to enforce the law against any auto dealer found violating these regulations,” he said.

He urged auto dealers to strictly adhere to the guidelines for vehicle display to avoid sanctions.

He said that the sanctions would include fines and seizure of vehicles.

Responding, the resident of Lagos Motor Dealers Association, Leke Aladegbemi, said that the association was willing to cooperate with LASTMA and other authorities and ensure compliance with regulations.

Mr Aladegbemi said that there was a need for auto dealers to operate within the confines of the law and pledged to educate members of the association on the importance of adhering to regulations.

Other members of the association at the visit are Olaniran Adelana, secretary, and Obodo Monday, assistant secretary.
