Robert Lewandowski etched his name further into Champions League history by becoming the third player to score 100 goals in the competition as Barcelona delivered a commanding performance to defeat Brest.
The 36-year-old Poland striker joined the exclusive century club, trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo (141) and Lionel Messi (129) in the all-time rankings. Lewandowski’s milestone came early in the match when he converted a penalty in the 10th minute, following a collision with Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot.
Barcelona doubled their lead through Dani Olmo, who netted his first Champions League goal for the club with a sublime move. A deft first touch allowed him to bypass Brendan Chardonnet before calmly slotting the ball under Bizot to make it 2-0.
Lewandowski added a second goal late in the match, bringing his tally to 101 in the competition. His clinical finish, following a superb spin in the box, capped off an impressive display by the La Liga leaders.
The Catalan giants dominated proceedings, enjoying 77% possession and preventing Brest from registering a single shot on target. Despite their control, Barcelona were denied further goals by resilient defending from the French side. Olmo came close to scoring again, but Chardonnet made a remarkable goal-line clearance.
Brest had a brief moment of hope when Mathias Pereira Lage found the back of the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside. Substitute Pablo Torre also missed a late chance to extend the lead, dragging his shot wide of the post.
With this victory, Barcelona moved up to second place in the league phase table, having won four of their five matches. Meanwhile, Brest dropped to eighth, reflecting the stark difference in form between the two sides.
