Lewis Dunk grabbed a late equaliser as Brighton rescued a 2-2 draw with Liverpool following an absorbing match at the AMEX Stadium.
The Merseysiders were looking to bounce back from their controversial first league loss of the campaign at Tottenham last week, but fell behind on 20 minutes when Simon Adingra caught out former Seagulls star Alexis Mac Allister before firing a clinical long-range shot beyond the out-of-position Alisson.
The visitors struggled for large periods in the first 45 but turned it around with a double blast in five minutes prior to the break.
Salah guided home his first on 40 minutes following sublime build-up from Dominik Szoboszlai, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez before coolly converting a spot kick after Bart Verbruggen and Pascal Gross were caught playing out from the back.
The second period was a much more open affair with Alisson doing brilliantly to deny the lively Adingra from close-in before Liverpool substitute Ryan Gravenberch somehow hit the bar with the goal gaping.
Brighton took control as the game entered the final stages and deservedly levelled 12 minutes from time when Dunk powered in Solly March’s devilish free kick.
The result moves Liverpool up to third, three points behind leaders Tottenham ahead of Manchester City’s clash at Arsenal. Brighton, who lost 6-1 at Aston Villa last time out in the league, are a point further back in sixth.
Following the international break, Liverpool hosts Everton in the Merseyside derby. Brighton travel to Manchester City.
