Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has condoled with the Chairman of Arise Television, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, the management and staff on the demise of one of its staff, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, during a robbery incident at her Abuja residence.
Makinde described Maduagwu’s death as unfortunate and a loss to the nation. “Somtochukwu was a thoroughbred professional who brought her best to the screen every time she was on air. Her death is unfortunate because she obviously still had much to offer the media world and the country as a whole,” he said.
The governor urged her colleagues and relations to take heart, praying that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. “It is my prayer that God grants repose to the soul of the departed and grants those she left behind the fortitude to bear the loss,” Makinde added. He commiserated with the relations of the deceased, praying that God grants repose to the soul of the departed.
Maduagwu’s death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from notable figures, including the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who described her death as a grievous loss not only to her family and Arise News team but also to the Nigerian media and the nation. Idris assured that the government would conduct a swift investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, also commiserated with the management and staff of Arise News, describing Maduagwu’s death as tragic and painful. “I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad!” Wike said, assuring that the Police will unravel the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice.
Makinde further called on Nigerians to look beyond their pains and work towards creating a safer country for everyone. “Despite our pains and agony, I beseech the relations, her colleagues, and all of us as Nigerians to look beyond our pains and work towards birthing a Nigeria where everyone will be safe,” he said.
The governor’s condolences reflect the nation’s shock and sadness at Maduagwu’s untimely death. As the investigation into her death continues, Nigerians are holding out hope for justice and a safer future.
