Manchester United Push To Secure Bryan Mbeumo Transfer From Brentford

Manchester United Push To Secure Bryan Mbeumo Transfer From Brentford.

Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to sign Brentford’s star forward Bryan Mbeumo, with negotiations set to continue this week, according to sources close to the club. Despite failing to reach an agreement with Brentford last week, the Red Devils remain steadfast in their pursuit, with the 25-year-old Cameroon international reportedly prioritising a move to Old Trafford.

Mbeumo, who enjoyed a standout 2024-25 Premier League season, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists, has emerged as a key target for United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim. The versatile forward, capable of playing as a winger or striker, is seen as a perfect fit for Amorim’s dynamic 3-4-2-1 system, particularly as a right-sided No. 10. His prolific form last term, where he ranked as the Premier League’s fourth-highest scorer, has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Newcastle United, but Mbeumo’s preference for Manchester United has given the club a significant edge.

Brentford, however, are holding firm on their valuation, reportedly demanding a fee in excess of £65 million for their talisman, who has one year left on his contract with an option to extend for an additional 12 months. United have already seen bids of £55 million and an improved offer of £62.5 million, including add-ons, rejected by the Bees. Sources indicate that Brentford are using a supposed £70 million bid from Tottenham as a benchmark, though United remain confident of striking a compromise soon. Personal terms with Mbeumo are believed to have been verbally agreed, with the player set to earn around £150,000 to £200,000 per week.

The Red Devils’ determination to bolster their attacking options comes after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, where they scored just 44 Premier League goals, the fifth-lowest tally in the division. United have already secured the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, and Mbeumo is viewed as the next piece in Amorim’s rebuilding project. The club’s financial flexibility, despite missing out on European football next season, allows them to pursue such high-profile targets, with experts suggesting that player sales, including Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, or Antony, could further offset costs.

Brentford’s sporting director, Phil Giles, acknowledged the significant interest in Mbeumo but stressed that the forward would be content to stay if a suitable offer is not met. “Bryan had an unbelievable season, and we expected interest,” Giles said. “If the right offer comes, a deal could be done, but he’s happy to stay at Brentford if needed.” Meanwhile, new Brentford head coach Keith Andrews described Mbeumo as a “talented player” and expressed hope that he would remain with the club.

As talks progress, Manchester United are keen to finalise the deal before their pre-season training begins on 7 July, ensuring Mbeumo can integrate into the squad alongside Cunha. The transfer saga has sparked excitement among United fans, who see the Cameroon star’s pace, versatility, and goal-scoring prowess as a potential catalyst for a revival at Old Trafford. However, with Brentford standing firm and Tottenham’s interest lingering, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether United can secure their man.
