Eighteen-year-old Marc Guiu stole the show with a first-half hat-trick as Chelsea cruised to a commanding 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers, securing top spot in their Conference League group and maintaining their perfect record in the competition.
Chelsea, already guaranteed a place in the last 16, showcased their dominance under Enzo Maresca with a youthful side that made it six wins from six in the group stage.
Guiu opened the scoring early on, capitalising on a mix-up between Rovers’ Darragh Burns and goalkeeper Leon Pohls. Although Shamrock Rovers briefly levelled the match through Markus Poom’s deflected strike, Guiu quickly restored Chelsea’s lead by pouncing on an under-hit back pass from Daniel Cleary, finishing from an acute angle.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall added to the Blues’ tally with a composed finish from a loose ball in the box before Guiu completed his hat-trick with a well-placed header in first-half stoppage time.
Marc Cucurella rounded off the scoring in the second half, firing a low shot off the post and into the net, ensuring Chelsea ended their league phase in emphatic style.
While Chelsea march on to the last 16, Shamrock Rovers will now face the knockout phase play-offs. Despite the loss, their 3,000 travelling supporters made their presence felt, particularly after Poom’s equaliser.
