Marseille’s Ligue 1 match with Lyon has been called off after OL’s team bus was attacked and manager Fabio Grosso injured.
The Italian suffered a head injury as objects were thrown at the coach, which shattered some of the windows.
Grosso appeared to be given medical treatment and seemed to be bleeding from his head.
Ligue 1 released a statement on its official website confirming the match had been cancelled.
It wrote: “During a meeting following the incidents that took place outside the Stade Velodrome on the journey of the team bus, Olympique Lyonnais made it known that they were against the match going ahead in these circumstances.
“In consultation with Olympique Marseille and public authorities, the match between OM and OL will not be played tonight at 20:45.
“The Competitions Committee of the LFP will now decide on the next steps to be taken in line with the relevant article of the regulations.”
Marseille followed with their own statement, saying: “Olympique de Marseille deplores the unacceptable incidents which took place this evening around the Stade Velodrome, against the team bus as well as Olympique Lyonnais supporter coaches.
“The club wishes a speedy recovery to Lyon coach Fabio Grosso and strongly condemns this violent behaviour which has no place in the world of football and in society.
“Due to a handful of unscrupulous people, the festivities planned for this evening was spoiled and deprived 65,000 supporters of attending a football match.
“The club is complying with the decision taken by the Professional Football League and remains at its disposal so that the meeting which was scheduled for this Sunday, October 29 takes place as quickly as possible and under the best possible conditions at the Stade Velodrome.”
