Maryamu Idris Appointed Nigeria’s OPEC Representative

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has appointed Maryamu Idris, Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited, as Nigeria’s representative to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

In a statement released on Wednesday, NNPC said Idris will maintain her current role while also serving as the country’s principal technical liaison within OPEC. She will additionally hold a seat on OPEC’s Economic Commission Board (ECB), contributing to technical discussions and policy recommendations.

Idris is expected to collaborate closely with Nigeria’s OPEC governor and other key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, to ensure that Nigeria’s energy interests are aligned with OPEC’s broader objectives.

Highlighting her extensive experience, NNPC noted that Idris previously led Pricing and Valuation efforts within the Crude Oil Marketing Division and served as a Technical Advisor to Nigeria’s OPEC delegation. She also played a key role in Nigeria’s engagement with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and contributed to oil sector reforms through work with the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Oil and Gas Implementation Committee (OGIC).

Idris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and a Master of Science in Energy Economics from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom. NNPC congratulated her on the appointment, expressing confidence in her ability to effectively represent Nigeria on the international stage.
