Mbappé’s Hat-Trick Sends Real Madrid Past Manchester City In Champions League

Mbappé’s Hat-Trick Sends Real Madrid Past Manchester City In Champions League.

Manchester City’s Champions League campaign ended in disappointment as Kylian Mbappé’s stunning hat-trick propelled reigning champions Real Madrid to a commanding victory at the Bernabéu, securing their place in the last 16.

Pep Guardiola’s side entered the contest trailing 3-2 from the first leg, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed when Mbappé opened the scoring just four minutes in with a delightful lob over Ederson, courtesy of Raúl Asencio’s pinpoint pass.

City’s night took another turn for the worse when John Stones was forced off through injury shortly after, further hampering their defensive stability. Things went from bad to worse before the break as Mbappé showcased his trademark close control, outmanoeuvring Joško Gvardiol before slotting past Ederson in the 33rd minute.

The French superstar completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark with a composed low finish, as Madrid stamped their authority on the match. City barely threatened in response, looking a shadow of the side that had dominated English football in recent years.

Nico González managed a late consolation goal, turning in his first for the club after Omar Marmoush’s free-kick rattled the bar, but it did little to soften the blow of City’s earliest Champions League exit since 2012-13.

Guardiola Faces Major Rebuild After Humbling Defeat

Guardiola had warned that City would need to endure suffering at the Bernabéu, but few expected such a one-sided affair. City lacked a cutting edge in attack with Erling Haaland sitting out the entire contest on the bench and were overwhelmed in midfield, where Ilkay Gündogan and Bernardo Silva struggled to keep up with Madrid’s energy.

Kevin De Bruyne, was likewise benched after a subdued display in the first leg, could only watch as Jude Bellingham orchestrated Madrid’s play with composure, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had little to do.

Young defender Abdukodir Khusanov endured a difficult evening in an unfamiliar right-back role, constantly targeted by Madrid’s relentless attacks. It was a baptism of fire for the 20-year-old, who found himself under siege.

For Guardiola, the defeat highlights the need for renewal. City’s era of dominance in England has not translated into sustained European success, and with an ageing midfield and defensive vulnerabilities exposed, significant changes may be on the horizon.

Real Madrid Show Their Ruthlessness Once Again

Real Madrid’s love affair with the Champions League continues, and they once again appear to be peaking at the perfect moment. The Bernabéu faithful watched on as Carlo Ancelotti’s side produced a performance of clinical brilliance, led by their newest superstar.

Mbappé, now fully settled after his move from Paris Saint-Germain, delivered a statement display, his finishing, movement, and composure leaving no doubt about his world-class credentials. His hat-trick goal capped a perfect night, earning him a standing ovation as he was substituted late on.

With Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo flanking him, Madrid’s attack looks devastatingly potent, capable of dismantling any defence in Europe. Their triumph over City serves as a warning to the remaining contenders that Madrid remain the team to beat.

As Ancelotti, a five-time Champions League-winning coach, watched from the sidelines, he knew better than anyone—Real Madrid are in their element when it comes to Europe’s biggest stage. Their pursuit of a record-extending 16th title is well and truly alive.
