Monday Set For Nomination Of Ijebuland’s Next Awujale

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has formally announced that the nomination meeting for the next Awujale of Ijebuland is scheduled to hold on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode.

The announcement was made in a letter dated December 11, 2025, signed by the family’s PRO and spokesman, Abiodun Ogidan. The letter outlined strict protocols for the event, specifying that only accredited members of the ruling housewould be allowed entry and that each candidate may have two representatives permitted to nominate and second them.

“The Fusengbuwa Royal Ruling House implores all family members and accredited representatives to conduct themselves with the utmost peace, respect, and orderliness befitting this sacred process. This nomination event concerns the revered throne of the Awujale, the Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, and must therefore reflect the dignity and unity of our illustrious lineage,” the statement read.

The ruling house also expressed prayers for a just, capable, and people-oriented ruler, stating:

“We offer prayers that the collective efforts of the Fusengbuwa Royal Family will culminate in the emergence of a noble Kabiyesi who will lead Ijebuland with honour and wisdom.”

This announcement comes following the death of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025, who ruled Ijebuland for an impressive 65 years, leaving behind a legacy of stability and continuity.

Lineage Controversy

The ruling house had earlier addressed lineage claims submitted by the Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as Kwam 1, rejecting his bid for consideration in the Awujale selection process.

“The linkage form submitted by Kwam 1 is null, void, and of no consequence,” the family declared, emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to genealogical and customary requirements.

Next Steps in the Selection Process

Following Monday’s nomination meeting, the official list of qualified candidates will be forwarded to the kingmakers, who are tasked with selecting the next Awujale in accordance with tradition. Observers and community leaders have called for transparency, fairness, and unity as Ijebuland prepares to welcome its new paramount ruler.

The upcoming nomination meeting is a pivotal moment for the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and the people of Ijebuland, as it sets the stage for the continuation of a centuries-old royal legacy.
