“My Journey To The APC Has Begun,” Taraba Governor Declares

Governor Positions Himself as the Bridge Between Taraba and the Ruling Party

Taraba State’s political landscape is on the brink of a historic shift as Governor Agbu Kefas prepares to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His dramatic declaration — “I am the way to APC” — is more than a slogan; it is a bold signal of a sweeping realignment that could reshape Taraba’s future for years to come.

The governor will officially make the transition on Wednesday, November 19, at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo — a venue that is itself being renovated in anticipation of the momentous event.

A Move Driven by Destiny and State Interest

Governor Kefas confirmed his planned defection during an inspection tour of the ongoing renovation works at the stadium. Speaking with journalists, he emphasized that the decision was not born out of political expediency, but out of a deliberate and long-considered commitment to advance the long-term interests of Taraba State.

“I will officially transition from the PDP to the APC on November 19.
This movement is about the destiny and future of the people of Taraba,”

Kefas declared, his tone firm and resolute.

The governor revealed that preparations were already underway to ensure a grand and seamless ceremony, noting that the event would attract dignitaries from within and outside the state.

When asked whether any conditions were attached to his defection, Kefas dismissed the notion completely:

“There are no conditions.”

This aligns with earlier statements by APC leaders in the state who insist that the governor’s entry comes with no strings attached — a gesture they describe as proof of their confidence in his leadership.

State Executive Council Backs the Governor Unanimously

In a rare show of political unity, members of the Taraba State Executive Council have thrown their full weight behind Governor Kefas’s decision. The endorsement came through the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, who spoke on behalf of the cabinet.

Aruwa left no doubt about where the administration stands:

“The governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we go with him.”

He added that Kefas’s move to the APC is not a personal political shift but a collective repositioning designed to accelerate development in the state by aligning with the federal government.

“This movement is for the entire people of Taraba State,
and we are with him 100 per cent,” Aruwa affirmed.

Why “I Am the Way to APC” Matters

Governor Kefas’s declaration carries deep symbolic and strategic weight.

1. A Bridge to Federal Power

By aligning with the ruling party at the national level, Kefas aims to unlock federal cooperation and resources that could drive infrastructure, security improvements, and social development across Taraba.

2. A Recalibration of State Politics

His defection is likely to trigger a major realignment of political forces in Taraba. With the entire cabinet and many political appointees following him, the state’s political map may be redrawn in a matter of weeks.

3. A Message of Unity and Forward Movement

Kefas frames his move as a journey for the entire state, projecting himself as the path — the “way” — through which Taraba will connect to broader national opportunities.

A Defection That Could Redefine Taraba

Governor Kefas’s shift to the APC is more than a partisan move. It is a strategic repositioning with the potential to:

  • Attract federal investments,

  • Stabilize political alliances,

  • Reshape upcoming electoral contests, and

  • Redefine Taraba’s identity in national politics.

What happens after November 19 will determine whether this bold step becomes a catalyst for transformation — or the beginning of a new political battleground.

For now, one thing is clear:
Agbu Kefas has set Taraba on a new path, and he intends to lead from the front.
