Naira Marley Alleges Mohbad Used Mother-in-Law’s Account For Payments

Naira Marley Alleges Mohbad Used Mother-in-Law’s Account For Payments.

Nigerian music executive Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has sparked controversy with claims that the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, used his mother-in-law’s bank account to receive payments. The revelation, made in a tell-all YouTube interview on 20 August 2025, has reignited public interest in the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s life and death.

Marley recounted that on 21 December 2020, Mohbad sent him bank details under the name Adesanya Justina Olajumoke, insisting it was his account for receiving payments. Marley later discovered the account belonged to Wunmi’s mother, not Mohbad’s mother, Abosede, which raised his suspicions. He claimed Mohbad continued to direct payments to this account on multiple occasions, including 30 December 2020 and 25 January 2021, even after being questioned about the arrangement. Marley said he eventually urged Mohbad to open a personal bank account to ensure transparency in their financial dealings.

The Marlian Records boss stated he confronted Mohbad about the unusual arrangement during a private conversation at his residence, expressing discomfort with sending funds to a third-party account. Despite his concerns, Marley complied with Mohbad’s instructions but remained puzzled by the setup. He suggested the arrangement raised questions about the transparency of Mohbad’s financial management while under his label.

Mohbad, who joined Marlian Music in 2019, left the label in 2022 amid reported disputes. His death on 12 September 2023, at the age of 27, sparked widespread outrage and allegations of bullying by Marley and his associates. In February 2025, a Lagos Magistrate’s Court cleared Marley and music promoter Sam Larry of any involvement in Mohbad’s death, though public scrutiny persists. Marley’s latest claims have drawn mixed reactions, with some social media users questioning why Mohbad routed payments through his mother-in-law’s account, while others remain sceptical of Marley’s narrative.

During a live TikTok session, several women debated the issue, with some suggesting Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, was justified in his frustration with Wunmi’s family. They speculated about possible ulterior motives, though no evidence supports claims of misconduct. Neither Mohbad’s family nor Wunmi has publicly responded to Marley’s allegations at the time of reporting.

Marley also addressed other aspects of his relationship with Mohbad, denying claims of bullying or financial exploitation. He presented evidence of WhatsApp chats showing Mohbad’s hospital visits in November 2020, refuting rumours that the singer avoided medical care. Additionally, Marley claimed he supported Mohbad during personal struggles, including paying hospital bills after a 2022 NDLEA arrest and intervening during a reported suicide attempt in March 2022.

The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s financial arrangements adds another layer to the ongoing discourse about his time at Marlian Music. As investigations into his death continue, Marley has called for authorities to re-examine those present in the 24 hours before Mohbad’s passing, maintaining his innocence and urging transparency. The music community and fans await further clarity on this complex and sensitive matter.
