The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has officially declared the resolution of the interconnect debt dispute between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. (MTN), and Globacom Limited (Globacom), in a mutually agreeable manner.
In an announcement made today, the NCC disclosed that the disconnection approval granted to MTN for disconnecting Globacom has been revoked following the successful resolution of the dispute.
After issuing a Public Notice initially, the Commission took further regulatory steps to mediate between the two parties and facilitate the reconciliation process, aiming to avoid any potential disruptions to subscribers.
Emphasising the importance of adhering to the terms and conditions of licenses, especially those outlined in interconnection agreements, the NCC underscores the imperative for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and other licensees within the telecommunications sector to comply.
To prevent future occurrences of interconnect indebtedness within the industry, the Commission announces its plans to request relevant records and regular updates from MNOs while adopting a transparent approach towards industry indebtedness.
This announcement reiterates the Commission’s dedication to fostering a stable and compliant telecommunications ecosystem in Nigeria, ensuring the smooth functioning of services and operations within the industry.
