NFF And FIFA Launch Groundbreaking Youth Talent Development Initiative.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has unveiled a new initiative that promises to revolutionise football development in Nigeria. In collaboration with FIFA, the NFF has launched a nationwide talent hunt aimed at identifying and nurturing young footballers under the age of 15. The programme has already made significant strides across various states and zones within the country.

Alhaji Gusau expressed the federation’s commitment to the initiative, highlighting the groundwork that has already been laid. “We have set up our team and employed coaches who have been travelling across the country conducting scouting activities. They are diligently identifying talents within the age brackets of 13, 14, and 15,” Gusau remarked. This comprehensive scouting has already resulted in the selection of 40 promising players, all of whom will enter a structured training programme.

“These young boys will form the backbone of our future U-17 national team,” the NFF President confirmed, emphasising the federation’s long-term vision of nurturing talent from a young age rather than relying on last-minute camps for team selection.

Crucially, FIFA’s involvement goes beyond scouting, with plans in place to establish an academy dedicated to the development of these young athletes. The academy will focus on providing both educational and football training, ensuring that these talents are moulded both on and off the pitch.

Alhaji Gusau also shared that over 100 players had been scouted across the nation, with the final 40 selected after trials in Abuja. These players will be brought together regularly for further training during school holidays, as part of a well-structured plan to maintain their progress.

With the support of FIFA, this initiative is set to significantly strengthen Nigeria’s footballing future, with hopes high that these efforts will pay off in the coming years as the country aims to produce the next generation of football stars.

This bold step by the NFF, in collaboration with FIFA, is expected to mark a turning point in Nigerian football, fostering young talent and setting the stage for future international successes.
