Nicolas Jackson Shines As Chelsea Edge Past Leicester City In 2-1 Victory

Nicolas Jackson Shines As Chelsea Edge Past Leicester City In 2-1 Victory.

It’s hard to imagine that just six months ago, Chelsea were reportedly involved in talks to exchange cash plus Nicolas Jackson for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. Fast forward to November 2024, and while Isak continues to impress at St James’ Park, Jackson is fast becoming Chelsea’s very own star. The 23-year-old Senegalese forward played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Leicester City, demonstrating why he’s now regarded as a key figure for the club.

Jackson opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a clinical finish, and his influence didn’t end there. In the second half, he turned provider, setting up Enzo Fernandez for a crucial goal that sealed the victory.

This performance is a significant turnaround for a player who, in his debut season, was often criticised for missed chances and inconsistent form. Despite scoring 17 goals in 44 games – more than the legendary Didier Drogba in his first season – there were persistent doubts about whether Jackson could compete at the highest level. ESPN pundit Craig Burley even questioned his suitability as Chelsea’s lead striker, citing his erratic displays and disciplinary issues.

However, the conversation around Jackson has changed dramatically. He is now proving the doubters wrong, with former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink placing him in the same bracket as Premier League stars like Erling Haaland, Ollie Watkins, and Isak. Joe Cole, speaking on TNT Sport, praised Jackson’s current form, describing him as “at the height of his game.”

Against Leicester, Jackson’s work-rate was instrumental in Chelsea’s victory. His relentless pressing helped win possession high up the pitch, creating opportunities for teammates, including one squandered by Noni Madueke and another converted by Fernandez. His goal itself echoed the best of Chelsea strikers past, as he outmuscled Leicester’s Wout Faes before showing great composure to find the back of the net.

Jackson’s recent consistency is the key difference from his early struggles, and Chelsea are reaping the rewards. As a potential match-winner, he now offers Chelsea the attacking threat needed when other key players, like Cole Palmer, have off days.

In a season where Chelsea’s form has fluctuated, Jackson’s development into a reliable striker is a positive sign for the club, and his future looks brighter than ever.
