In a bid to provide relief and support to female orphans affected by banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has unveiled a remarkable initiative.
Addressing reporters in Minna, the state capital, Sarkindaji revealed plans to facilitate the marriage of 100 orphaned girls from the region.
With a commitment to easing the burden on these vulnerable individuals, the Speaker announced his intention to cover the dowries for the brides-to-be and has ensured that all essential provisions for the mass marriage ceremony are secured.
The selection process for the beneficiaries was meticulous, with the Speaker noting that the girls were chosen from a pool of 170 applicants, although specific details regarding their age range were not disclosed.
Characterising the initiative as an integral component of his constituency empowerment programme, aimed at addressing the plight of the underprivileged, Sarkindaji emphasised the importance of community support in fostering resilience and recovery for those impacted by adversity.
The event, scheduled for May 24th in Bangi, the administrative headquarters of Mariga Local Government Area, will see esteemed figures including the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau, taking on roles as guardians for the orphaned girls during the marriage ceremony. Additionally, the presence of Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board, is anticipated, adding significance to the occasion.
