Nigeria and China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership.

This commitment was emphasized during a reception in Lagos celebrating China’s 76th National Day and Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. The two countries have achieved significant results in their bilateral relations, with trade reaching $21.89 billion in 2024, making Nigeria China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa.

The Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, highlighted the importance of people-to-people exchanges, citing the growing number of Nigerian youths learning Chinese language and culture. “We look forward to more Nigerian friends learning about China, visiting China, and falling in love with China,” she said. The Consul General also noted that “China-Nigeria relations are at their best in history, with profound prospects for cooperation.”

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on China-Nigeria Parliamentary Relations, Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, praised the strategic partnership, noting its impact on infrastructure, education, technology, and cultural exchanges. He expressed Nigeria’s determination to remain a reliable partner of China, adding that both nations could jointly contribute to Africa’s development and global peace.

The partnership between Nigeria and China is built on mutual respect, shared aspirations, and practical cooperation. Both countries are committed to promoting mutual prosperity, job creation, and long-term sustainable development. The Nigerian government has pledged to support China’s Global Governance Initiative, which calls for a more just and equitable international order.

The celebration in Lagos brought together top government officials, diplomats, business leaders, cultural groups, and students from both countries. The event underscored the mutual commitment of China and Nigeria to consolidate their partnership across economic, cultural, and technological sectors.

As both nations look to the future, their partnership is expected to yield even more benefits for their citizens. With China’s expertise in infrastructure development and Nigeria’s rich natural resources, the potential for growth and development is vast. The partnership will likely lead to increased economic cooperation, job creation, and improved living standards for Nigerians.
