Nigeria And St Kitts Nevis Strengthen Ties With Visa Free Travel

Nigeria has granted visa free entry to citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis, effective September 26, 2025.

This move marks a significant milestone in Africa Caribbean relations, with St. Kitts and Nevis becoming the first country outside the ECOWAS bloc and beyond Africa to benefit from such privileges.

The decision was facilitated through the Afri Caribbean Investment Summit, an initiative driven by Abuja based Aquarian Consult Limited under the leadership of Aisha Maina. According to Maina, holders of ordinary, official, and diplomatic passports from St. Kitts and Nevis can now enter Nigeria without a visa. “This visa waiver is more than diplomacy; it is about opening doors for trade, investment, and cultural exchange,” Maina stated.

The agreement is expected to unlock opportunities in commerce, tourism, and cultural exchange between Nigeria and St. Kitts and Nevis. It also reflects Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy, which increasingly emphasizes bilateral agreements beyond Africa to support trade, investment, and mobility.

The development is seen as a strategic step to strengthen trade, investment, and cultural exchanges, while reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to South South cooperation. St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew welcomed the decision, highlighting its potential to foster stronger ties across the Atlantic and support cooperation in trade, investment, education, and tourism.

The visa free policy is already being hailed as the foundation for a new Afri Caribbean trade corridor. A historic non stop charter flight between Abuja and Basseterre carried 120 Nigerian delegates, establishing the first direct air link between West Africa and the Caribbean.

The relationship between Nigeria and St. Kitts and Nevis has expanded rapidly, with recent events such as the Afri Caribbean Business Expo in Basseterre showcasing collaboration opportunities in agribusiness, technology, and the creative economy. Nigeria’s Agriculture Minister, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Samal Duggins, have also advanced joint initiatives on food security and agricultural trade.

The breakthrough follows the Afri Caribbean Investment Summit hosted in Abuja earlier this year by Aquarian Consult Limited. The summit created momentum that has now translated into concrete policy action, with stakeholders expecting the Nigeria St. Kitts and Nevis agreement to serve as a benchmark for future partnerships with other Caribbean nations.
