Nigeria Army Dominates 2024 Armed Forces Games.

The Nigeria Army has emerged as the overall champions of the 2024 Armed Forces Games, which concluded at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna State. The Army secured an impressive total of 264 medals, consisting of 172 gold, 60 silver, and 32 bronze.

The Nigeria Air Force finished in second place with 129 medals, including 33 gold, 103 silver, and 187 bronze, while the Nigeria Navy claimed third place, amassing 18 gold, 43 silver, and 129 bronze medals.

Brigadier General Abdulraheem Bello, the Acting Director of Physical Training for the Nigeria Army, dedicated the victory to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his unwavering support for sports development within the military. Brigadier General Bello noted that Army personnel have consistently been key members of the national teams in various sporting disciplines, attributing the results to the Army’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent.

“Winning the 2024 Armed Forces Games is a testament to the incredible backing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. The gap between our gold medal tally and the second-placed team stands at a remarkable 139 medals,” Brigadier General Bello stated.

He further highlighted that since Lieutenant General Lagbaja’s appointment, the Nigeria Army has actively participated in numerous National Championships across a wide range of sports, including boxing, judo, taekwondo, shooting, athletics, handball, and volleyball.

Bello expressed confidence in the Army’s future success, adding, “This result will inspire the Army to continue investing in our athletes across various sports. We have the potential to make Nigeria proud at the African, Commonwealth, and Olympic Games in the near future.”

He concluded by encouraging the Army personnel to remain good ambassadors of the Nigeria Army and to strive for continued excellence in their respective sporting endeavours.
