“Nigeria Gains Global Respect Under My Leadership”, President Tinubu Declares.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that Nigeria has regained significant international respect and recognition two years into his administration, attributing this to bold economic reforms and strategic diplomatic engagements. Speaking at the State House in Abuja while receiving His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, alongside other royal fathers, the President highlighted the nation’s stabilised economy and growing global stature.
Tinubu noted that his administration’s tough decisions since May 2023 have addressed longstanding issues such as revenue leakages, corruption, and economic mismanagement. “Years of neglect, fake records, smuggling, and arbitrage trading denied Nigeria critical revenue,” he stated, adding that reforms have restored integrity and predictability to the economy. He pointed to the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a key achievement, ensuring access to education as a tool to combat poverty.
The President also celebrated Nigeria’s economic milestones, including meeting the 2025 revenue target by August, largely driven by non-oil sector growth. “The economy is now stable, attracting interest from around the world,” Tinubu said, citing a strengthened naira, rising foreign reserves, and a booming stock market generating trillions in wealth. He emphasised that these reforms have positioned Nigeria as a reliable business partner globally.
Tinubu’s recent diplomatic efforts in Japan and Brazil were highlighted as pivotal in enhancing Nigeria’s global profile. In Japan, at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), he secured commitments for investments in industry, technology, and human capital. In Brazil, partnerships in trade, agriculture, aviation, and finance were advanced, including the return of Petrobras, Brazil’s state-owned oil giant, to Nigeria after a five-year absence.
Addressing local challenges, Tinubu pledged urgent action on Ogbomosho’s electricity and water supply issues, directing the Minister of Water Resources to prioritise the town’s dams. He also committed to supporting agriculture and youth employment, leveraging Ogbomosho’s fertile lands for crops like cashew and mangoes.
The President’s remarks come amid preparations for the Motherland 2025 Festival in December, a cultural and economic event aimed at showcasing Nigeria’s heritage and fostering global collaboration. Tinubu reiterated his commitment to building a Nigeria that is respected abroad and resilient at home, urging unity to achieve a trillion-dollar economy.
Oba Ghandi Laoye praised Tinubu’s leadership, calling for federal support to address Ogbomosho’s infrastructure challenges. As Nigeria continues its journey towards economic recovery and global prominence, Tinubu’s administration remains focused on sustainable reforms and inclusive growth, promising brighter days for all Nigerians.
