Nigeria Partners With Propcom+ To Boost Agriculture And Economic Growth.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged to collaborate with Propcom+, a UK Aid-funded programme, to enhance agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods across the country. This commitment was announced by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, during a meeting with a Propcom+ delegation in Abuja on Wednesday.
Edun emphasised the government’s dedication to fostering inclusive economic growth through strategic investments in agriculture, a key driver of Nigeria’s economy. He outlined ongoing efforts, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the African Development Bank, and other stakeholders, to provide smallholder farmers with subsidised inputs and access to finance for both wet and dry season farming.
To ensure efficiency and transparency, Edun highlighted the use of biometric systems for direct benefit transfers to vulnerable populations. Additionally, initiatives are underway to connect farmers with viable markets, ensuring that agricultural interventions deliver tangible benefits to communities nationwide.
The Propcom+ delegation, led by Political Director and Team Leader Dr Adiya Ode, expressed enthusiasm for supporting Nigeria’s reform efforts. The programme, focused on climate-resilient and market-led agricultural development, aims to enhance productivity and improve livelihoods, particularly in regions affected by conflict and climate change.
