Nigeria Police Arrest 130 Suspects In Major Cybercrime Bust.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 individuals, including 113 foreign nationals primarily from China and Malaysia, in connection with high-level cybercrimes, hacking, and activities deemed a threat to national security. Among the suspects, 87 are foreign men, 26 are foreign women, while the remaining 17 are Nigerian collaborators, comprising four men and 13 women.
The arrests was announced by Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The operation, a coordinated raid on a building in the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi, Abuja, was conducted by a specialised team from the Nigeria Police Force’s Zone 7 Command, Abuja, and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC). According to ACP Adejobi, the suspects were found with computers and other sophisticated devices allegedly used to facilitate cybercrimes.
The operation was led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Benneth Igweh. Speaking on the operation’s success, ACP Adejobi stated, “We are investigating the matter and scientifically analysing the exhibits recovered from them. The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of our investigations.”
