Nigeria Secures €300 Million Development Partnership With France.

In a significant stride towards bolstering economic growth and sustainable development, Nigeria has entered into a €300 million development partnership with France. This landmark agreement is set to drive investments in key sectors such as healthcare, transportation, renewable energy, and agricultural value chains.

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, signed the agreements on behalf of Nigeria, while France’s Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industry, Mr Antoine Armand, represented the French Government. The partnership also involves France’s development agency, AFD (Agence Française de Développement).

Strategic Focus Areas

The partnership prioritises several critical sectors, including urban infrastructure, STEM education, sustainable agriculture, food security, and healthcare. It also aims to support Nigeria’s energy transition goals and enhance agro-logistics hubs and MSME financing to stimulate job creation and economic growth.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in France, Mr Edun stated, “This partnership goes beyond financial support. It is about building robust, sustainable systems that foster development and empower Nigerians. It reflects the confidence of international partners in the progress of Nigeria’s economic reforms.”

Reinforcing Development Diplomacy

The agreement aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda which focuses on economic stimulation through sustainable projects. AFD reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy access initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and food security programmes, emphasising efficient project implementation.

AFD CEO Rémi Rioux highlighted the agency’s dedication to long-term collaboration with Nigeria, noting the importance of these investments in fostering shared prosperity.

Driving Nigeria’s Economic Transformation

This partnership represents a major boost to Nigeria’s economic diplomacy, ensuring international backing for critical developmental initiatives. Mr Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, remarked, “This historic partnership is a testament to the growing confidence of international partners in Nigeria’s economic reforms. It will play a significant role in driving growth, creating jobs, and improving the lives of Nigerians.”

As Nigeria continues its path towards sustainable development, the partnership with France underscores a shared vision of progress and mutual benefit, strengthening bilateral ties and laying the foundation for a prosperous future.
