To tackle the pressing issue of food security amidst soaring food prices and inflation, the Nigerian government has inked a monumental €995 million deal with the Brazilian Government and the German Deutsch Bank Group.
The agreement, spearheaded by Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, aims to establish mechanization hubs across all 774 local government areas (LGAs) in Nigeria.
Speaking from Minna, Niger State, Minister Kyari stated the important role of the Green Imperative Programme in revolutionizing Nigeria’s agricultural landscape. The program’s core objective is to boost agricultural productivity by deploying cutting-edge technology and machinery, thus addressing the deficit in mechanization within the sector.
As part of the initiative, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the John Deer Group, a subsidiary of Tata Equipment, to deliver 10,000 units of tractors and implements over the next five years.
President Bola Tinubu, Speaking at the Food Security and Agricultural Mechanization Programme in Niger State, reiterated his administration’s unwavering dedication to ensuring food sufficiency and safeguarding local industries for sustainable economic growth, he stressed on the need for proactive measures to mitigate the food crisis and transform Nigeria into an economy of opportunities.
